Default question on adding another pump

Attached is a simple drawing of my tank set up.. the red line is the outlet from my eheim 2260 canister which is currently connected straight to my OHF. currently using eheim 1262 as the only pump but im thinking of adding another pump, which is shown in the pic with a blue line and connect it to the red line using a T-Valve to my OHF as well.. will it work? will water be pushed back into the cannister instead? coz thinking of placing the canister inlet near the water surface with a surface skimmer and need a pump below to do mechanical fitration. Anyone got better suggestions?

Whats the flow rate of the intending pump? Will it overwhelmed your ohf base tray using two pump concurrently for a single ohf?

I think unless the new pump is too strong, it will not flow back to the canister. But your OHF might not able to take the load and overflow.

I have 2 concerns...

- will the ohf box overflow?
- if the pump pressure is stronger than the cannister, can the cannister take that kind of pressure?

Overall I feel that it is not a safe way to connect that way. Any of the concerns happened will be a disaster.

that's not a gd idea ...
pressure from the new pump will put pressure in ur canister output pipe thus decreasing flowrate and efficiency. best is to run canister separate from ohf ...

instead of a T connector, why not use a Y connector. it will mitigate the problem of your canister having to handle backflow.

My suggestion.
Run the cannister and the new pump for the OHF separately.

Existing cannister return direct to the tank.
New pump to run the OHF independently.

1) The pump will not interfere with the cannister flowrate.

2) Risk of OHF overflowing lowered as only 1 source of water feed.

juz to add,...
use the canister pipe to blow debris towards the pump more effectively, no need additional wavemaker for that ...

ok thanks for all replies.. will take advise and connect the pump individually to ohf and the cannister direct back to tank. probably wanna use something that is 3000l/h flowrate..
