If you are going to make an DIY background with cement and styrofoam, do note that cement leech out tannin that increase your pH value..
Unless you are going to keep cichlid in there, if not, i suggest you to purchase the background from fish shop.. making DIY background is time comsuming if you are the first time.. I can give you few tips on making background if u want... in my own way, never seen other people do this.. |

high ph is not an issue for marine. some cichlids need soft water, FYI.
however i believe there are more issues than ph when using cement in saltwater. cant tell you what they are though. |

yeah.. might have to choose a decent cement.. i personally used a sraight cement, not mixed with anything..
quite tough, unless you put on a high pressure on it, which your fish wont do that, unless you keep shark or crocodile inside |
