Why the aro behave in this manner after black out?
This evening my house was black out for abt 3 hours, my tank is a 5x2x2 with sump .The tank is equiped with ac/dc pump. It only house one 7 " XB and 3pcs of small silver shark. The ac/dc pump is still working when the electricity is back to service. But when I reach home I saw my aro is behave strangely open and close the mouth very rapidly and sometime swimming up side down.
I quickly put in extra air pump and the condition only improve after half an hour, Any idea why the aro behave in this way? Last edited by stvloh; 28-07-2011 at 12:46 AM. |

bro im no aro expert but i think... aro needs air pump for oxygen since they aren't like tomans who breath from the surface. thats my thinking and might be wrong

TS, IMO, maybe the output from ur ACDC is insufficient? did u measure ur water parameters? any spike in any parameter? Last edited by issacyeo; 28-07-2011 at 08:47 AM. |

it can be ur fish got spooked during the balckout n might have jumped or dashed causing it to breathe harder
based on ur load, ur acdc is more then enough unless ur water parameters itself is not very good |

My guess is that no doubt the tank is supplied with air pump, the filter itself was not. There could have been massive bacterial dying off in the filter compartment resulting in change of chemistry in the water once power resume.

Water condition (even before power trip) was not good
No filtration.... Imagine fish swimming in own poo n laden w nitrates!!! |
