Sludge in sump tank
a question on the "sludge" or brown stuff that settles at the bottom of our sump compartments.... understand that these are by-products of the complete nitrification cycle....
besides aesthetically unpleasant and potentially clogging the sump, is there any cons in not removing them? Does it browns water too? I have some inaccessible areas in my sump which sludge is piling up. It will be chore and risk to overhaul my sump just to remove them. thanks. |

Don't worry lah.... they feed on the sludge and grow very fast, they are very clever, once they reached a certain size, they will stay around the return compartment for you to catch.... big size torsat my ray favourite.

Bro. Interesting...U meant they can move from 1st or 2nd compartment to the last return pump compartment?

So I'm not alone with this problem
I just used a siphon and suck out as much of the sledge from the small gaps between each compartments. Can't clear all but it helps Btw, if torsat eat those sludge, are they still healthy to use as feeders? |

If you look back at previous threads, some bros here use ghost shrimps to clean their sump. Buy a dollars worth and just dump it into your sump.
Remember to post before and after pics. |

I tried ghost shrimp before and they just overflow into the next compartment. So the last compartment will have all the shrimps, and the first compartment not cleaned
Do you use a wool to block them from flowing over to the next compartment? |
