So is it true that the metal detector/ scanner cannot?
Is it true that rusty fishing hook in the ray cannot be detected because of the rust? So scanning of wild caught rays for hooks in stomach not always full proof?
I am against wild caught, all for captive bred. |

Actually, if the vital organs are not damaged, rays will spit the hook out after some time. Unlikely to have a wc ray with hook kanna rusty and still alive.

Depending on the type of hooks, some start to rust after a few days. Fishes such as marine parrot fish, catfish, grouper, stingray are able to spit out the hook, but usually after a week. By then, fish is still alive, hook is still inside and rusted.
If these wild caught are scanned with detector, the hook might not be picked up. If fish is sold and it dies at the hand of buyer, it will be quite a case. Last edited by Aro1; 14-03-2011 at 11:06 PM. |

rays can survive longer with a hook inside and yes they will eat but eventually shortly after will stop eating and die if its not spit out. just depends on how long it was in holding, transit, and store before sold. so in most cases yes its usually around a week as its already been out of the wild for longer.
but on the other hand when you buy a wc ray and it doesnt eat for a few days dont freak out thinking its a hook just do water changes, offer a variety of foods, and the least amount of stress as possible and they should come around. |

Place deposit and leave the ray there in the shop for 2 weeks take a picture if you are afraid that the seller change your ray. Anyone here do this?
