Default Sochting Oxydator

Went to Petmart this afternoon and saw this interesting product. It can provide oxygen for tank as well as enabling good water conditions. Just need to top up hydrogen peroxide. Now put in my tester goldfish tank to monitor 1st.

Can go to the following to read up more:

Any idea how long can the catalyst last?

No idea.

I thought it is suppose to last a long time. By the way what is the function of the catalyst?

in my opinion, if the tank is not heavily overloaded, properly sized air pumps are sufficient for fish tanks.
such set ups are more suitable for those overstocked, heavily bioloaded tanks.

Hydrogen peroxide is not necessary, excess high purity oxygen not taken in by living things will just dissipate into air. and if the tank water surface is broken by aeration bubbles, OHF, pumps, wavemakers, high purity dissolved oxygen will not last long in the water.

The catalyst as stated in the website is H2O2. It will breakdown to oxygen and water. But they never say when you will need to replace.

Catalyst is some ceramic media, purpose is to facilitate the breakdown of h2o2.
Hydrogen peroxide, h2o2, is the reagent, the chemical that breaks down into o2 & water.

Hi guys, I'm wondering how easy and economical it would be to obtain a consistent supply of 5% H2O2 locally?
Would you guys know of any source? Those in the pharmacies are only around 3%.

Hydrogen Peroxide is listed under the arms and explosives act in Singapore. Probably only allowed to sell up to 3% over the counter unless otherwise licensed to do so by the relevant authorities.

I see...then getting a sustainable supply of H2O2 to run the oxydator might be tricky.......
