redcross Blood striken gf

Dear all,

I ever had a white goldfish who suddenly showed signs of lethargic swimming for a few days and for the next few days, it sank to the bottom of the tank.

I thought it was due to overfeeding and had quarantined it with no food. But the white gf manifest blood striken tail and scales plus the wen or headgrowth also turn reddish before it went up the lorry.

Anyone had the same experience with their fish?

Sorry don't have any pics to show.

Thanks in advance

If I can still recall, 80% water change every week. The tank is 4 by 2 by 2ft. 3 ranchus...OHF with 3 chambers of ceremic rings, wool, bio balls and coral chips. Feeding 2 times per day with pellets for as much as they can eat in 5 mins.

is the tank cycled?

if yes, then i think it's septicaemia.

The fish will not act right. They may lie on the bottom with their fins clamped, stop eating, get ulcers, fin rot and die. Most fish with septicemia will have red streaks running through their bodies and fins. The anus might swell up and the fish might look "constipated".

Best is to remedy it with salt. Salt will encourage his own natural slime coat to develop which is natural protection against all sorts of problems. Excellent water quality must be maintained during this time especially so any secondary complications such as ulcers or fin rot will not become a problem. I always add a small dose of melafix for preventing bacterial infection.
