There are differences in head shapes for different regions too....
God this hobby gets so frikin complicated at times haha!
Pretty nice WC endy you got there. I kinda agree that keeping bichirs can be complicated sometimes. Have you notice that the pattern of WC endies also varies from region of capture? For me, as long as the endy has nice pattern, I dun care where it is from.

BTW that PBB looks very ill treated for a PBB that has been in someone aquarium for a few years. Do you know why it is so thin?

Anyway guys, I just saw my lapradei flipped belly side up and when I tried to help it back, it swam away in that tilted position. Currently, it's breathing heavily and remains in a slightly tilted position. It was fine yesterday and when I turned on the lights today, I saw it in a pretty awkward position but didn't think much into it, until my brother realised it flipped over! Tankmates are all bichirs of smaller sizes. No abnormality regarding the water condition and no other bichirs exhibit such a behavior. Also, large air bubbles escape from its gills and it curls up opposite side down occasionally. When it goes into this state, it is even possible for me to touch it with my bare hands, so you can imagine the seriousness of its condition. I desparately need some advices on how to save it, so please render any form of help you can. Thanks in advance
It's a Nigerian lap head. How is the lap now? Seem like it got badly bitten by another bichir from your discription.

Thanks for your concern. It has no wounds and broken finages. From what I've heard, the symptoms it displays seem to indicate that it's suffering from swim bladder problem. There has so far been no further flipping-over today, and it seems to have stabilised already although it still seems to be very slightly tilted.

It does seems that we locals require more experience to tell apart a PBL and PBB which display traits of both species. How do you source out these images BTW?

Not ill treated at all!
Whilst it isn't the fattest of fish I have seen, and I would believe that the original owners (Who I know VERY well, and breed Polypterus on quite a large scale) wouldn't feed as much as I would normally feed my Bichirs, The fish is a male, and is from Turkana region. One of and the main differences between the regions is the Turkana are supposed to grow quite a bit longer.

This fish could do with some pumping, it is far from malnourished.
It really is a very long fish.

As for the Endli, yes pattern and also color vary from region to region, but I find can also vary individually between regions too!!!

And yup, Endli rock no matter where they are from.
