New To Sump
Hi Bros, my tank is 5X2.5X2 with a 3ft sump.
Pls refer to the attached video of my sump. The current sump setup is as follow: 1st compatment: White wool, BH, 2 layers Jap Mat & bottom slope compatment abt 150 to 200 bioballs. 2nd compatment: CRing 3rd compatmennt: BioHme + 4th compatment: Eheim 1264 & coral chips. My enquiry the 4th compartment the water becomes less within 4 days. Is it normal in sump and do I need to top up water at the top of tank or at the sump. Thanks for reading. http://youtu.be/TIhTzpcF9wg |

... there should not be much difference... most bros do the topping up in main tank as the introduction of "new water" may be mixed with the main tank water before flowing to sump, this will minimize dying off of the BB....
... myself, i used a auto top-up system at my sump... based on the water level in the last sump compartment, water is auto top up to the last compartment of my sump..... |

So is it correct the sump need to top up water every 3 to 4 days,
Or is it my pump Eheim 1264 too strong for the sump, Or if I remove the Bio Balls at the 1st compartment bottom slope it will make the water to flow more easily. |

.... the pump flow rate has little to do with the evaporation (unless those open large bakki showers, etc)...
Is your tank covered? the sump compartments can be covered too, to reduce evaporation and noise... |

Normal to top up the water in last compartment as water evaporates , don't worry so much.
