Besiktas Want Sturridge

Besiktas fans were rumoured to be planning a “come to Besiktas” campaign for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge - and that’s exactly what they’ve done.

Echo reported yesterday that the striker - who had an unsuccessful loan spell with West Brom last season - was linked with the Turkish giants, whose fans are known for their social media phenomenon of pleading with a player to join their club.

Sturridge, however, took to Instagram to tell the story of how he recovered a lost mobile phone while holidaying in America.

“Walking back from the restaurant last night, I saw a homeless guy running across the street, throwing banter and all that stuff,” he said.

“He’s like “I found an iPhone, I found an iPhone, I’m selling it for $20’. So I said: ‘Alright, I’m buying it off you.’

“I rang the guy, found out his name is Jack Shear from Boston and I’m leaving his phone at reception.

“The moral of the story is, good karma. You know how many times I’ve lost my phone and no-one’s returned it? It’s nuts. So in future, so a good deed, return someone’s phone.”

A heart-warming story from Sturridge - but judging by the response to his post, the Besiktas fans are desperate to land their man this summer.

Default Pep Lijnders rejoins LFC coaching staff

Liverpool FC can confirm that Pepijn Lijnders has returned to take up a role in the club's first-team coaching setup.

The Dutchman brought a three-and-a-half-season stay at Anfield to an end in January as he took up the managerial reins of NEC in his homeland.

However, following his departure, Lijnders has agreed to rejoin Jürgen Klopp's backroom staff in a senior capacity.

Default Philipp Jacobsen joins Reds' backroom team

Liverpool FC can confirm the appointment of Philipp Jacobsen as the club's new medical rehabilitation and performance manager.

The German joins the Reds from the Qatar-based orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital, Aspetar.

Jacobsen worked as Aspetar's senior physio from 2007 to 2015 before moving on to work with the Qatar national team until 2017. He then took on a lead role and headed up a specialist team assigned to the care of elite foreign athletes visiting Aspetar – mostly from football and athletics.

He has previously worked in football with Greek giants Panathinaikos, serving as the club's head physio between 2001 and 2004, and joined Portsmouth in 2005.

Jacobsen will now head up Liverpool's Melwood-based medical team alongside Dr Andrew Massey.

Default Liverpool eyeing move for £10m-rated Nigeria international Moses Simon

Liverpool are eyeing a move for Nigeria international winger Moses Simon.

The 22-year-old is on the Reds radar as they continue their recruitment drive this summer with Jurgen Klopp keen to bolster his attacking options.

Simon, who has been tracked by several Premier League clubs, has a year left remaining on his contract and is expected to command a fee of around £10million from Belgian side Gent.

He has been heavily scouted by Liverpool as they seek pacy backup to regular wide man Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Simon is capable of playing on either flank but spent much of this season on the left wing, where he contributed six goals and three assists in helping Gent finish in fourth in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.

Simon suffered personal heartbreak last week when it was confirmed he would miss the forthcoming World Cup finals in Russia.

The player has been suffering from a hip injury, and while he is expected to be available in three weeks, Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr chose not to include him in his 23-man squad.

“I will definitely be back soon, stronger and better,” said Simon.

“To the Super Eagles, I wish you all the best of luck in Russia – go and make us proud.”

Klopp wants to increase the strength in depth of his squad this summer.

Naby Keita and Fabinho have already been signed as part of a midfield overhaul, while the Reds are continuing to work on a move for £60m-rated Lyon attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir.

Liverpool are also likely to move for a new goalkeeper with speculation over Simon Mignolet's future.

Default Who is Moses Simon?Meet £10m-rated Nigeria star who Liverpool want to give them wings

In-keeping with much of Liverpool's transfer dealings this summer, it was a name that came from nowhere.

Much like the surprise deal to snare £39.3m Fabinho after the Champions League final heartache, the name Moses Simon caught many off guard when Liverpool's interest was revealed on Tuesday night.

But just who is Liverpool's latest interest?

The forward plays for KAA Gent in Belgium's Jupiler League and has caught the eye with his performances from the left-wing where he scored five goals in 20 appearances.

The versatile wideman is capable of playing across the frontline, but the predominantly right-footed Simon prefers to operate on the left side.

This summer's World Cup would have provided Liverpool fans the ideal chance to get a glimpse of their potential signing, but the 22-year-old will miss out on the tournament in Russia.

Simon sustained a muscle injury last month and will play no part in the Russia tournament when it gets underway later this month.

“It is unfortunate that [Moses] Simon won’t be able to make it to the World Cup because of his injury,” Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr said.

“The test we conducted on him showed that he would need at least three or four weeks more to recover from the injury he is having.

“It is a sad day for us but there is nothing we can do about it because we must move forward.

“He is an important member of our squad because he took an active part in the qualifiers but this injury has come at the wrong time."

After suffering World Cup heartache, the Reds target took to Instagram to reveal his disappointment earlier this month.

"I will like to thank all my fans for the love, support and prayers during this trying time, you all are amazing people it’s just a pity that I couldn’t make it to #Russia but man proposes but God disposes.

"I will definitely be back soon stronger and better. To #supereagles I wish u all d best of luck in Russia go and make us proud".

Moses is expected to be recalled to the Super Eagles squad when they begin AFCON qualifiers against the Seychelles on Friday September 7.

Default Five forwards who Liverpool could turn to in this summer's transfer window

For a team that plundered 135 goals last term, it may sound strange to claim that Liverpool need to add more firepower to their ranks.

But with plenty of upheaval expected in the frontline positions this summer, Jurgen Klopp will be keen to add some depth to the stunning trio of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

They netted a remarkable 91 goals between them last term, but understudies Dominic Solanke and Danny Ings managed just one apiece.

Daniel Sturridge fared only marginally better with three before his January loan switch to West Brom, and a forward who lit up Anfield for the first half of his Liverpool career could be heading for a low-key exit this summer.

It is telling that Liverpool's fourth top scorer from last term was Philippe Coutinho, who netted the last of his dozen goals against Swansea on Boxing Day.

Earmarked to perhaps perform such a task is Nigerian forward Moses Simon, who the Reds are interesting in making a move for this transfer window.

"I thought the squad was very good at the start of the season, but I think what it lacks is cover for the front three. When one of them misses out, the quality coming in is not enough," Jamie Carragher told Goal.com last season.

"We don’t need a striker. We need a multi-functional player. Another Mane, if you like.

"You could probably play Mane up front if you wanted to. He can play left, right or up front, like someone like Alexis Sanchez can.

“If Liverpool can find a really good attacking player who can play two or three positions, he will get games anyway.

"He will almost play every week. Players need resting, the manager rotates, he changes for different fixtures. It is possible to keep them happy, but you have to find the right player."

But just who could that 'right player' be?

The move for Simon aside, any other potential incomings up top will be needed to fill a variety of positions in Klopp's favoured 4-3-3 system, and versatility is essential.

With that in mind, we've taken a cursory glance across Europe and picked out five who could fit the bill.

Leon Bailey

The latest star of Bundesliga football.

Bayer Leverkusen's Leon Bailey provided more than a glimpse of his considerable talent last season with nine goals and six assists.

The 20-year-old wears the No.9 shirt for Bayer, but he can operate in wide areas with his pace and skill.

The left-footed speed merchant certainly caught the eye in Germany's top flight last term, and there was even talk earlier this year of England attempting to convert Bailey, whose grandparents have English passports, in time for the World Cup.

Klopp of course knows the Bundesliga better than most and he hasn't been shy of raiding his homeland in the past.

Wilfried Zaha

Crystal Palace winger Zaha enjoyed an outstanding campaign last term.

The Ivory Coast international was crucial to the Eagles' successful attempt to stay in the Premier League and Zaha shone with nine goals. Only penalty-specialist Luka Milivojevic scored more for Roy Hodgson's side.

Zaha could perhaps lay claim to being the Premier League's best player outside of the top six, and as such, would cost big money.

Despite a failed stint at Manchester United earlier in his career, the 25-year-old, is now poised to once again make a move to one of English football's giants.

However, Palace are likely to demand a huge fee for their star man, and it remains to be seen if Liverpool would be willing to sanction it for someone who would not be a guaranteed starter.

Christian Pulisic

A name regularly mentioned.

The 19-year-old has carved out a reputation as one of the brightest prospects in Europe over the past two seasons playing for Klopp's former side Borussia Dortmund.

The United States international made 25 starts for BVB last term to further cement himself as a key player for the German side. He netted four goals and six assists and does not turn 20 until September.

Time is very much on the side of the teenager and his potential development under a nurturing coach like Klopp is an exciting prospect for Liverpool fans.

Riyad Mahrez

A player who was briefly linked with the Reds back in January.

Despite reports, Liverpool never considered swooping for the Leicester star after offloading Philippe Coutinho, but could they now this summer?

The Algerian international was instrumental in helping the Foxes to that astonishing Premier League title victory of 2016 and while he was not as imperious last term, Mahrez still showed enough to convince Manchester City to make their move.

Leicester held firm in the January transfer window as City closed in, but the Foxes could be more open to selling this summer for the right fee.

The 27-year-old would add more skill, pace and goals to Liverpool's impressive attack. Perhaps his potential fee could hinder things though.

Memphis Depay

One from left-field perhaps?

Netherlands international Depay endured a difficult two-year spell at Manchester United, but the 24-year-old has rebuilt his reputation once more with Lyon in Ligue 1.

Depay is capable of playing either flank and as an auxiliary striker, which would come in handy if Klopp opts to rotate next term.

The former PSV youngster has scored 22 goals for Lyon since moving to France in January last year.

Default Jasper Cillessen interest, Alex Telles bid and other Liverpool transfer rumours rated

The transfer gossip surrounding Liverpool continues apace.

The Reds are linked with a whole host of players - some more obvious than others.

Here are the latest Anfield rumours from around the web.

Jasper Cillessen

Who? Barcelona's second choice goalkeeper, who is Holland's number one. He has struggled to displace Marc ter Stegen at the Camp Nou since moving to Barcelona in 2016.

Where? In an increasing number of outlets, but now Cillessen is busy linking himself to both Liverpool and Arsenal, saying: "I need to wait patiently. The only thing I know is that Barcelona won't sell me.

"Arsenal and Liverpool aren't bad clubs but if Barcelona say, "We love you", then I'll accept their decision and continue there."

What? Liverpool are certainly on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, but Roma's Alisson Becker was the Reds' first choice in recent months.

Caglar Soyuncu

Who? We were asking the same thing. He's a centre-back currently with Freiburg, who has also been linked with Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.

Where? Over at Turkish-Football.com, and that has been picked up by the Mirror . They say Liverpool scouts watched Soyuncu playing for his country in a 1-1 draw with Russia.

What? This is the first time we've heard this one, so it's hard to say. But Jurgen Klopp's recruitment team will know all about the Bundesliga and the Reds could, in theory, be in need of another centre-back.

Alex Telles

Who? Porto's flying full-back, who mainly operates at right-back and has also played for Galatasaray and Inter Milan, among others.

Where? In Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha , who have claimed that the Reds and Chelsea are looking to take advantage of a £35m release clause in the Brazilian’s contract.

What? We can't see it. Why would Liverpool want to spend big money on a left-back after Andy Robertson's performances last season? Sounds like paper talk to us.

Malcom

Who? Yes, him again. Bordeaux's exciting young, Brazilian winger who lit up Ligue 1 with his performances last year.

Where? The Italian website gianlucadimarzio.com , who claim that Malcom has given the "green light" to Inter Milan for a move.

What? The 20-year-old scored 12 goals and managed seven assists last term, so we're sure the whole of Europe knows all about him. But right now Liverpool's attentions are focused on Nabil Fekir and Moses Simon.
