Default Lobster/Crayfish Tank Setup

Just wanna show the simple setup of my crayfish tank -

The simple 2ft tank is separated into 3 different sections. The dolphin submersible pump is visible on the extreme left section, which is also filled with coral chips which aids to buffer the water.

The water outlet is at the extremely right section. In this way, a constant flow of water from the right to the left will ensure sufficient dissolved oxygen across all compartments.

Depending on the sizes of the crays, the tank can be further divided into more sections.

The tank in the post aboves houses a cherax sp. commonly refered to as rainbow cray. Country of origin is Indonesia.

The body shape is characteristic of most cherax and is slightly longish. The claws are massive but slightly flattened. I have one housed in each compartment. Unfortunately both are males.

Another 2ft tank above the cherax tank is also powered by an OHF. The lava rocks serves as hiding places for the procambarus clarkiis that were housed in it. However I must stress that no matter how many hiding places a tank has, I am almost certain that certain chemicals are emitted when crays moult that attracts other crays to the defenseless blob of flesh.

As such, always look out for the tell tale signs of impending moults and separate them. Some inhabitants of the tank -

Default Last tank

This is my last tank. It houses 4 cherax destructors and is powered by an internal filter -
