Anyway IMHO generally there are more that would prefer bare bottom for breeding n fry tanks. Simply because it is easier to maintain.

Everyone has OCD traits. It's only labelled OCD officially when those tendencies go past a certain point on the spectrum.

Anyway don't need to be so modest la. I'm sure you are really good. I just have a gut feeling that fine sand is slightly kinder to the zebras than bare bottom just because they like to play in the sand, and because sand is their natural substrate in the wild. I guess in terms of health there is not much difference.

Bare tank for me but I'm not breeding zebra's.

Like what Guru Johanness said it's all up to personal preference. I'm lazy to take care of my tanks so the less maintenance the better.

Lol, you know what, despite the obvious results of my poll, I've just decided to change my tank from bare-bottom to a fine layer of sand today in honour of you. LOL!

Can't ever go back le!

Don't know what I'm doing also, but I must say, my tank does look so nice with the sand! Maybe I should give things a try before coming to conclusions!

(Ok la, the real reason is because I just added 25 corydoras to my tank). Lol.

But keep it thin, 0.5 cm like that.

I'm inclined to report after two days of switching that the fish really like the sand. Whether or not it is healthier for them is a separate issue, but I think they really enjoy siphoning the sand through their gills. Like children in a playground.

some people like this thread so I'd just like to say that if anyone else wants to add their preferences to this list, please continue to do so (fine sand vs bare bottom) along with a little blurb as to why you prefer one over the other (easier cleaning, look nicer etc.)

Thanks!
