A friend of mine who works in a LFS said that if u want to clean the tank, just use hot/warm water + sea salt and sponge to clean the tank.. Don't have to use clorox to clean it.. sounds so drastic..

Actually use bleach(chlorine) to wash the tank is fine. The impt part is after you wash the tank, you got to wash off 100% all the chlorine traces. The thing is can you stand the smell of clorox?
It is very bad to breath all the chlorine vapours and difficult to wash off the chlorine traces. I actually clorox my tanks before when there is an epidemic. But normal cases like this, just use hydrogen peroxide. It will kill off most bacteria. Cos yours is a big tank, de-chlorine the tank will be an issue. Go to guardian buy one big bottle of hydrogen peroxide for 6 bucks, get a cloth and wet it with hydrogen peroxide then wipe the tank. wipe clean with water thereafter. My 2cents worth of advice. eh dont use clorox. why take the risk. just use some vinegar if you are hardcore on cleaning. if not just scrub clean wit warm water and leave it to dry out. bacteria all gone by than.

Those using hot water for washing, be aware that it may affect the silicon adhesive in the long run.
Using chlorine to disinfect is more than enough, use anti chlorine for washing will do. This method is also use for Decapsulated Brine Shrimp Cysts. |
