It depends on whether are you going into this hobby for long or not? You can get steel or even WI, but as long as there is iron, rust will occur. Periodical maintainance is a must like fresh paint, scrapping of old paint etc. On the exterior surface, may look ok, but what about the interior? Inside the hollow tube?

I am using stainless steel since day one(Think yr 1999), no rusting or whatsoever for maintaince free reason. But Stainless steel also has its grade, just go for higher grade(higher chromium %) if you decide on it.

Use Hammerite Direct To Rust Metal. Super rust resistant and tank stand always looks new . Use it on both of my stands and very happy with it. Can get for under $15 from h/w shop.

My stainless steel is already showing some sign of slight corrosion, any ways to remove the corrosion or which agents can I apply to protect the SS from further corrosion?

Use vinegar and rub the rust away.
