fixing a hook to a false ceiling to hang a light
Hi guys, I had wanted to fix a hook on the ceiling so that I can hang a light above my tank. However, the ceiling is those false wall material.
So how should I go about it? The false wall seem to be made of those soft gypsum material. Will it be able to hold the light set? In the first place, how do I secure the hook into it? It;s unlike solid wall, which I just need to drill a hole deep in and screwed in the hook. Anyone can advice? Or do you have any contact for a contractor to do the job so I have a piece of mind? Thanks! |

You can try the metal wall anchor http://homerepair.about.com/od/inter...astening_7.htm. It can carry a few kg easily. Never buy the plastic butterfly type, will drop out after a while. Cost will be about $0.20-0.40/pc at hardware shop.

The metal wall anchor described above is for attaching to a solid base (eg. concrete walls) for hanging heavy stuffs.
If the base if a false ceiling, its not designed to support heavy things in the 1st place, you should use those plastic butterfly studs for attaching small things. I support the suggestion to DIY a stand. Last edited by redbasser; 04-02-2011 at 07:25 PM. |

But I still think OP should not hang the light on the false ceiling. Its not the attachment that I'm worried about. Its the whole celing may not be able to support the load. Last edited by redbasser; 04-02-2011 at 08:31 PM. |
