Default fixing a hook to a false ceiling to hang a light

Hi guys, I had wanted to fix a hook on the ceiling so that I can hang a light above my tank. However, the ceiling is those false wall material.

So how should I go about it? The false wall seem to be made of those soft gypsum material. Will it be able to hold the light set? In the first place, how do I secure the hook into it?

It;s unlike solid wall, which I just need to drill a hole deep in and screwed in the hook.

Anyone can advice?

Or do you have any contact for a contractor to do the job so I have a piece of mind?

Thanks!

False ceiling is not secure, it will give way anytime. Maybe you can DIY a light stand using wooden planks. The stand will rest on your tank side walls.

That's what Im worrying. If really got no choice, have to custom make a stand le.

But still, hanging above looks sleek.

Love such a light setup !

False ceiling no problem laaa

How many ft light? Pl? FL? MetAlHalide?

I believe normal lightset 5ft with 3-4 hooks for support should be ok spread them apart lo

You can try the metal wall anchor http://homerepair.about.com/od/inter...astening_7.htm. It can carry a few kg easily. Never buy the plastic butterfly type, will drop out after a while. Cost will be about $0.20-0.40/pc at hardware shop.

Bro, looks good. But Im wondering if the false ceiling can tahan the weight or not leh. Its to hold a 70 watt MH light set. quite heavy leh...probably 8 kg or more, estimated.

The metal wall anchor described above is for attaching to a solid base (eg. concrete walls) for hanging heavy stuffs.

If the base if a false ceiling, its not designed to support heavy things in the 1st place, you should use those plastic butterfly studs for attaching small things.

I support the suggestion to DIY a stand.

I believe you have not use the mention metal wall anchor before, it is not for concrete wall but for gysum/plywood board. The concept is the same as plastic butterfly stud, just that once the middle portion bend inwards, it will create a very strong attachment. removing will be difficult.

Sorry, I just took a quick look at it just now, I thought was the other type....

But I still think OP should not hang the light on the false ceiling.
Its not the attachment that I'm worried about.
Its the whole celing may not be able to support the load.
