Filtration Media Queries
Hi bros ~
I believe many of us use a sponge to cover our inlet to prevent shrimplets from being sucked into our canister / other form of filter. As the sponge at the inlet probably would have prevent many smaller particles from getting into our canister filter, do you guys still put sponge in your canister filter ?? Because for myself, i am using ATMAN CF-600, have only 2 trays and a bottom portion. Currently, bottom portion is empty ( i do not know if its suppose to be empty or i can actually put from media in ) the middle portion is are sponges ( 1 soft and 1 hard sponge ) while the top layer is filled with Mr Aqua CR. I am thinking of removing my sponge layer and change to CR instead ( which means now my CF only has CR ). Wondering if any bro does it too ? Also, if pros can advise, is the bottom layer of CF suppose to be empty ? Or isit meant for media to be put inn too ? - I believe bottom layer should be empty so water can circulate there and be more uniform to move up the CF and finally back into the tank. However, would like some advise on this. On a side note, what is the function of lava rocks ? Is it the same function as CR ?? To cultivate BB ? Will it change pH or gH ? Kindly advise please This is for my shrimp tank if you guys are wondering ~ Last edited by sianxz; 15-03-2011 at 06:31 PM. |

I only know Bio-home and Bio Home plus. Are there any other better media that can substitute CRs ? Last edited by sianxz; 15-03-2011 at 11:39 PM. |

If you see my setup, i have a prefilter (1.5 litre) filled with CR rings, and a 2026 filled with 3 litres of biohome and biohome plus, and dymax lava rocks. this setup i over filtered.

If im not wrong...
BB cultivates best on rough surface that they can cling on and also rough surface area creates the most surface area on a small piece. |

depends on type. those reddish type r a bit acidic
yes, totally agree. If surface too smooth, they have problem clinging on. |
