Default Aro listless and always on the surface

Hi al, my Aro has not eaten for 2 weeks. Always on the surface. Swimming without energy and aimlessly. Once in a while will open its mouth as if spitting.

Initially Suspect nitrate poisoning as I was moving some beddings while rearranging the tank. All the shit and debris was churned.

Will try to attach pics later. Anyone encounter this b4?

Water conditioner added?

Tank size, filtration?

All parameters seems ok

Condition worsen. Now Aro swimming haphazardly around surface gasping for air. Sad sight. Think I'll put it down humanely.

Tks all. Aro abt 12 inches.

Put 1% salt with general aid and lowered water to 3 inches. No heater available through night. This morning still alive but belly up . Fish was very weak. Decided to put it down to shorten the suffering.

Another thing to share.

Water parameters was normal. Fish also looked ok otherwise. No pop scales, red dots , ext parasite or bloated tummy.

I still think may have to do with me shifting the beddings and churning up the debris and shit. I had bags of filter media at a corner to help to bring down nitrate (similar to sand bedding). Was being careless the other day and noticed Aro don't look normal the next day.

So may be the best to keep Aro tank bare except for a few tank mates. Just a thought for all to consider

What do you mean by water parameters are ok? Do you have the relevant test kits to test?

What are your pH, NH3, NO2 and NO3 readings?

By churning out debris, it will cause ammonia spike. What filter media to help reduce nitrate? Nitrate should be the least of concern as it can be removed through frequent water change and it is toxic only in high concentrations as compared to ammonia and nitrite which are more toxic.
