My view is to let it grow till bigger first, cos tanning is alot of stress... The juvenile may not eat properly, and will not grow well. The initial growth (The fastest at that size n age) is important to me cos, after sometime you want it to grow bigger also cannot.... my 2 cents
Side tanning could also induce drop eye... but so owners dun mind/care their focus is an AngAng red aro I'm sure there are other views |

I agreed with bro Arodude's view, should let it grow bigger first, then think of tanning, don't rush, concentrate on the growth.

No fixed timing and size to start tanning.
The more impt huddle when tanning is, are you able to accept the defects which might bring abt due to tanning. On the norm, the size is abt 12". |

I started tanning my aro when he was about 11". Really has to be patient. Feed too much, colour can't catch up with size. Feed too little, size might be stunted.
