there is no fix rule. as mentioned PP is very useful but deadly too.

tell us your tank size, and fish info so that we can further advise you.

It depends on the water condition. PP oxidise stuff. Meaning if your aquarium has green water, you will need to put more. Since you are not using for pond, buy the liquid form, so that you can add slowly.

Add slowly, once until the tank has a light purple colour. and wait for it to turn brown. use hydrogen peroxide to get rid of the brown water. I normally dont bother with brown water since my filter will get rid of it in days.

Add airstone...

If your fish is breathing heavy and on the surface, meaning you overdose.

i guess tanlee has already given you the method and advice necessary.

basically it also depends on the fish you keep to determind the dosage.

lesser concentration you can put longer duration, higher concentration the time has to be much shorter.

for example when i used pp to treat my discus, i dosed much heavier and for only a few minutes. after that i did a 100% water change. i did not use hydrogen peroxide to neutralise potassium permanganate. you can overdose hydrogen peroxide if necessary. it is harmless to your fish.

if unsure, always use the lighter dosage of pp.

if you buy the pp crystals from say guardian, you could add them to treated water to dilute first, before adding into your tank. sort of a pre-mix.

HEAVY AERATION IS A MUST as pp will remove the oxygen from the water as it will oxidise. do remove all filtraion media as pp will kill all bacteria, good or bad.

using potassium permanganate is a double edge sword. it is very effective but deadly. if used incorrectly, you may end up killing all your fishes. use with care.

good luck.

When pp is added it's suppose to weed out all bacterial good & bad, does that suggest that cycling will be necessary for the filtration system again - reboot...
hope the fishes are doing well

preferably to bypass the filter.

however, for my configuration, my filter is very established and my bio load is low, i just pp the whole pond...
