Have enuff! Yrs of try out w/ hair grass failed. Any1 can recommend a chiller 4 2ft?
Hi all, I think its finally time to get a chiller, tried all ways to cultivate hair grass.....buy n died buy n died. Any1 of u had tat experience as well? Lol
Chiller needs alot of $ to upkeep......initially was hesitating to get one. Now i think no choice if i were to get nice carpeted hair grass growth? If any1 has any cheaper alternative then chiller, pls recommend Otherwise, can pros here recommend a budget but durable chiller? My temp at home is quite hot. Esp recently, weather is crazily hot. Around 28-31 hover around there. Isit advisable to get a 2nd hand chiller? Any pros n cons ? Please advice! (frustrated amateurish planted tank owner) Marc |

Why not if you have a budget for a chiller? it not only for hairgrass but you can also go for other water plant that need cool water and strong sunlight.

if you can achieve 28C with fan, its good enough.
You'll need rich substrate, sufficient co2 level in water and enough light and your hairgrass will grow. To make things easier you can post in marketplace and ask for submersed hairgrass as what's sold in LFS are emersed form and it'll take time for it to change to submersed form in our tank and that window will give algae a chance. Enough light, proper co2 level and fertilisation all plants will grow. |

My specs are
1) 2 ft tank 2) Bright plant light (recommended by C328) 3) C02 at 2bps 4) Branded substrate (forgot name, packaging is green+red with shrimps) 5) Weekly doses of Floruish comprehensive fertiliser/potassium/nitrogen 6) weekly change 1/3 water 7) Strong fan (but temperature still hover around 28-30) Is anything wrong? Thanks Marc |

What is your source of the hairgrass? How did you plant it? |

The light is recommened by C328 for plant. I just got a new one too. Forgot the wattage. It should be the best around i guess. Source of HG also at C328. plant it in small clusters all around my tank.

The problem most likely is as bro sfk7 says is the source of the HG which most likely is grown above the water.(emersed) It takes time for the plant to adjust to growing underwater. Unless your conditions are ideal, they will stay green a while then rot and die. With the amount of ferts inside your tank I am surprised that you are not complaining of algae. 2bps doesn't mean much. There is no way that you will know if it is enough without other parameters. Go look around for a CO2 table. |
