I have never really bothered about KH previously, I just kept doing WC to bring up the pH (temporarily).

Aww pity the title was changed. It wasn't completely incorrect since we are in fact dealing with cations when adding sodium bicarbonate

we need both cat and an -ions of sodium bicarbonate for the buffering capacity.
