Selective Breeding of L66 Hypancistrus
Hi Folks,
Just want to share with you a project which I've been working on for the past 1-2 years. Encouraged by the advices from Bro Johannes, I've went ahead to do selective breeding of the L66. I started with 3 breeding groups of about 17 pcs of adults L66. All 3 colonies have been breeding consistently for me prior to that. However, I notice these brooders can be categorised into two main line patterns - thin and broad lines. Bro Johannes encouraged me to use the broad line pattern fish for breeding. Hence, I started focusing on the breeding of these broad line L66 from then on. And here are some pics of the outcome. The line pattern may change as they developed but at least it is a good start... Hope you like them. Cheers! From older batches - approx 2.5 inch From more recent batches - approx 1.5 inch |

They look more to L236 pleco, as the white base is different from L46. Nice breed out.

Nice!
Selective breeding of Hypans is not a quick process like guppy and Betta. It usually takes about 1.5-2 yrs for each generation to mature and breed. It takes lots of patience but the result will be rewarding. Ups for bro Checkerbox!

Very nice yellow base pieces.
Can share how is your plan like? one colony per tank or just a single specific pair to breed for the pattern you want? |
