Liverpool definitely can do better here. They’ve got the goal but they are continuing to be sloppy in possession. Can imagine Klopp will have a word or two to say at half-time about this.

Liverpool are keeping the ball well but are struggling to break down this well-organised Brighton side. Moving the ball from side to side at the moment, probing for a second goal. When Brighton do eventually win the ball back they are too deep and can’t get out.

No changes at half-time from Jurgen Klopp as the teams re-emerge.

The Reds will undoubtedly keep that high-press up and go for a second as they attack The Kop.

Default Loris Karius joins Besiktas on two-year loan

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has joined Turkish side Besiktas on a two-year loan deal.

The 25-year-old is set to spend the remainder of 2018-19 and the whole of 2019-20 with the Super Lig outfit, who have started the new campaign with back-to-back league victories.

Karius has made 49 appearances for the Reds since joining the club from Mainz in 2016 and was named on the bench for Liverpool’s opening Premier League fixture of the season, against West Ham United.

Besiktas contested the first leg of their Europa League play-off against Partizan on Thursday and continue their league schedule at home to Antalyaspor on Sunday evening.

Everybody at LFC wishes Loris the best of luck during his loan spell.

Jurgen Klopp outlines the work Liverpool still have to do after going top of Premier League

Jurgen Klopp admits he has “a lot of work to do” after Liverpool laboured their way to the top of the Premier League.

Mohamed Salah's 23rd-minute strike was sufficient for Liverpool to continue their 100% start to the season with a narrow 1-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield.

Despite recording three successive victories and having yet to concede a goal, Liverpool were below par for large patches and were reliant on a late save from Alisson Becker from a Pascal Gross header to preserve the three points.

But Klopp believes such patchy form shouldn't come as a surprise as he agreed with earlier comments from his Manchester City counterpart.

“Pep Guardiola said this week that his players are not 100% fit and we have the same problem,” said the Reds boss.

“We can't give the boys no summer break and then a very short pre-season and say 'now deliver your best'.

“You have to go through this. These games are the most important sessions we have to become as fit as possible.

“We won the game and it was deserved. 1-0 isn't a result we've had very often since I've been here and I'm very happy we have had one of them. It was the best we could have had today.

“Nobody doubts that we deserved the three points. That's the most important thing.

“I knew before the game that we had a lot of work to do and now you know it as well.”

Klopp added: “It's not an interesting part of the season to be top of the table, but I have no problem with that.

“Nine points after three games, I've never heard anything negative about that. And we didn't concede, nothing negative about that.”

Liverpool dominated possession but had to withstand some concerted Brighton pressure during the closing moments.

However, an 11th clean sheet in their last 18 Premier League games since Virgil van Dijk's arrival proved decisive.

“If you don't decide a game early then it stays pretty exciting,” said Klopp. “It was clear that we would not start slowly and at the end show our best.

“I wouldn't say we were under pressure but they had their moments.

“The first half was how I think it should be. Good mindset, patient at the right moment, passing around their formation and through it and creating good moments.

"We scored the goal and could have scored more and didn't give them a lot of chances, but then after half-time we didn't do exactly the same.

“Maybe it's my English or whatever, but the boys changed a little bit and, let me say it like this, it wasn't the best idea. We weren't patient, we didn't push the play around anymore.

“It was a much more open game, absolutely no need for that. Then we controlled it again but in the last 10 minutes they had their moments.

"We started passing through the area where there was no space and we kept losing the ball.

“Alisson had to make a good save, nice, good for him and good for us.”

Jurgen Klopp blown away by development of Liverpool Academy goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher

A number of Liverpool Academy youngsters caught Jurgen Klopp's eye this summer.

Curtis Jones, Rafa Camacho and Nat Phillips all enhanced their reputations with impressive performances in the pre-season friendlies.

Now Caoimhin Kelleher has done the same away from the spotlight with his contribution in training at Melwood.

The 19-year-old goalkeeper is now regarded by Klopp as Liverpool's third choice shot-stopper behind Alisson Becker and Simon Mignolet.

The Republic of Ireland youth international is ahead of fellow rookie Kamil Grabara in the pecking order.

Klopp, his backroom staff and the club's senior players have been blown away by Kelleher's development. He's now viewed as a first-team squad keeper rather than an Academy player.

It was Grabara who was on duty for Liverpool Under-23s against Manchester City on Friday night, while Kelleher warmed up with Alisson and Mignolet before Saturday's Premier League clash with Brighton at Anfield.

Kelleher, who was born in Cork, joined Liverpool from Ringmahon Rangers in his home city three years ago.

His progress at Melwood is the reason why the Reds didn't seriously consider signing a back-up keeper this summer.

Liverpool knew that either Loris Karius or Mignolet would leave, but Klopp was happy to kick on with one of them and Kelleher as deputies to Alisson.
