Is It Worth To Use Baking Soda To Recycle Water?
I have noted that by putting sufficient amount of baking soda to used water, the water will become clean (the dirt will settle at the base). So if we put some used water in the water changing process aside into some storage tank, and put some baking soda into it. Wait for 1-2 days for the water to be clean, then we could recycle the used water.
It will be better to do this on not so dirty water. Of course, there is some cost of adding baking soda, but recycle water is good for environment. What do you think and experience on this ? Chiu |

Is there any harm to use baking soda as I am not sure whether it is the right in the first place. I used the pH up powder from LHS as I am not sure it will kill the guppy

Your pH up powder lots of time contain sodium bi carbonate actually. And with LfS branding, it cost so much more. My experience with this baking soda is positive till now.

I learn to add baking soda to increase pH level from Kaner.
I have been adding it to the water for about 3 months. Nothing negative so far. |

Let me explain again.
When we do our water change, the water is dirty, usually we just throw it away. We could keep this dirty water into a storage tank, add baking soda to it, after 2-3 days, the water will be clear (the dirt is kept to the base), then we could use this water to recycle. Adding baking soda to water will increase the pH level, when the water is > 7.0, usually the water is clear. Hope it helps. |

Clear water doesnt mean water condition is good . Baking soda is use only for buffering ph in aquarium use . Ur re-cycle water still contain nitrate . |

Very interesting to know there are different findings.
Did anyone measure the nitrate level of the recycled water after adding baking soda? Think this is really good if water condition is optimal, something like SG new_water? |

Baking soda will not reduce the nitrate level. If constantly using soda powder to up the ph mean your ph buffering is not good enough. Baking soda is only a temporary solution.
