I just use those normal cable cutter. Able to give a clean cut.

I usually use a shear to cut each individual joint then use a metal spatula to clear the remaining protruding parts.
Have seen a LFS owner use a metal ruler to "cut" the egg crate to size

i beg to diff.
i also using those orange hardware shop cutter .

but my method is slight diff from urs

if i need to have it at the left edge , i cut more to the right. leaving a tab.

then i use a piler grip that tab and twist up down to break the protruding tabs. can give me a cleaner cut and no sharp edges.

Can try asking the lfs to cut for you, i asked mine to show me how to cut, that's where i found out how to do it. but mine was a straight forward cut to length. if not u can use bro vitor's method.

it is actually quite easy once you get the hang of it.

i usually use the back of a knife to chop on the crate. they normlly just break instantly.

Just use those pliers to cut. One grid at a time...
