bro, kelvins is call light temp but not the actual temperature of the lamp.
it's like a rating for the light colour.

eg

2000k = pinkish
6500k = yellowish
10000k = whitish
20000k = bluish.

the most intense light would be the 6500k to 8000k rating (check the lumens)
6500k is like noon sun.. hot hot... 12000k would be like morning sun or evening sun, not so hot.

plants do grow with 12000k tubes. more importantly would be whether the plants you have require intense lighting with the full spectrum of light waves.

When you say its the actual temperature, as mentioned, it is independent of the kelvin ratings. One 12000k light can be very hot while another 12000k light is tolerable.

Plants flourish under ratings between 6500k and 8000k because it mimics the actual sunlight at noon and contains a good range (spectrum) of colorings. 12000k is good for marine tanks as they thrive under the more bluish lights.

Plants can and still grow under 12000k but it is just like our intakes. You take Subway and I take hawker western. Yours is "better" in quality but both of us still roughly get the food that fills our tummy. Its a very off analogy but I think it is somewhere there.

As always, I recommend going between 6500k and 8000k. Its better to change your equipment to suit your tank rather than you suiting the equipment. Remember, the tank should be centric around your idea of the scape, rather than your ideas coming together from what you have at present.
