Substrate is a must IMO, the rest is for you to create something as awesome as possible for a nice/cool looking setup with rocks or whatever that is good and suitable, whichever you can think of. You can also use the pvcs in you tank and bury them with substrate or just leave the on top of the substrate(whichever way you like)

Shows us how creative you are bro zoids

Nice blues... do you keep them in normal tap water or you add some bottled Tanganyika solution to create higher pH water ?

I was thinking of putting substrate of sand (have about 70Kg) but the thought of cleaning the sand of the waste put me off. Bare tank with rocks i abit scared that the base will break. Bottom line for me was to keep it simple and easy to maintain. Maybe i will try the substrate on another tank of zaires and compare the difference.

I have my own mix of salts to buffer and up the PH. My tank is a PH 9.

I use to think like zoids, easy to maintain, but trust me bro zoids, you'll give in eventually.
