Default Algae problems

How do I maintain the algae in the tank while my plants are turning yellow?

Why do you want to maintain algae while most if not all of us trying to get rid of them? Are you trying to grow algae?

Nope, my meaning of maintaining algae means stopping them from growing. The algae is growing all over the tank, including on the plants. The algae looks like brushes. Thin long strips.

If it is black, its called Black Brush Algae (BBA).. you can try use siamese algae eater (if I am not wrong), else you may need to cut away the affected plants. Its not possible to remove them manually.

I see, I try to remove them by cleaning manually and it will only be gone for a week and then it is back. The algae is green in colour and I have put in five ottos and they can't solve the problems effectively.

You mean the brush like algae is green in colour? Otto is only efficient in eating those greenish spotted algae that grows on the glass(usually).

How big is your tank? Plants? Fauna? Lightings? 5 Otos is a lot if it's a small tank. They're going to starve if you don't have the right kind of algae for them. And if i'm not wrong, from observing my otos at work, I seriously doubt they eat those stringy type algae. Wrong mouth for it. Remembered somebody mentioned in this forum about adding mollies to eat those algae, but that would depend on what other fauna you have in the tank as well.
