Homemade Food for Marine Tank
It's not my recipe, saw it while surfing. It's just a guide here, u can always add anything that u want (nori, cyclopeeze etc.)
Ingredients: 1 - 2 oz package of thawed frozen brine shrimp (from lfs) 1 - 2 oz package of thawed frozen blood worms (from lfs) 1 - 2 oz package of thawed frozen krill (from lfs) 1 - 2 oz package of thawed frozen squid (from lfs) 4 to 6 oz of thawed frozen shrimp (from grocery store) 4 to 6 oz of fresh oysters (from grocery store) 2 hardboiled egg yolks 1 - 4.5 oz jar of babyfood peas 4 - 7 gram envelopes unflavoured gelatin 15 ml of Sera Fishtamins Preparation: Place all ingredients, except Fishtamins, in a food processor (or a blender as I do) and mix until all is a smooth consistency. Place into a large bowl and lightly cover with a piece of plastic wrap then heat in microwave for 2 to 4 minutes, removing to stir at least three times. Remove from microwave when contents are liquid and have just become hot but not bubbling. Mix in Fishtamins. Smooth onto a cookie sheet lined with plastic wrap so it's about 1/8 thick. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for 30-45 minutes, then cut into 3/4" squares (or the amount for a one-meal serving for the number of fish and invertebrates you keep). Store squares tightly wrapped in plastic wrap in an airtight plastic container in the freezer. Serving: This homemade food is served twice daily. Remove enough for one meal from freezer and let thaw 2 to 3 minutes. Cut into bite-sized pieces and/or crush into smaller bits. Additional Comments: Other ingredients I plan to add to subsequent recipes are 2 to 4 oz of various marine fish (such as mahi-mahi), mussels, crab, lobster and clams. The above recipe takes a lot of work to prepare but the resulting food lasts a very long time. Make sure storage containers seal very well to keep the unused portions as fresh as possible. If the amount of fish to be fed are few, half the above recipe can be made at a time or the recipe can be shared with a friend. |
