Rules and Regulations of the 9th National Betta Competition

All participants shall abide by the Rules and Regulations stated herein. Entries found violating any of the Rules and Regulations may be disqualified.

1. The organizers shall be the sole authority for the interpretation of the Rules and Regulations.

2. The competition is open to residents in Singapore, overseas members of the Betta Club (Singapore), and IBC Area 6 Chapter members only.

3. There are 41 classes in the 9th National Betta Competition (Please refer to the 9NBC Entry Form).

4. Each entry shall consist of 1 Betta splendens (or 2 Wild Bettas, 1 male and 1 female, for Division F). A non-refundable entry fee of S$15.00(Area 6 chapter members)/S$20.00(non-members) shall be charged for each entry. All entry forms shall be accompanied by full cheque/cash payment. Participants shall be allowed to submit a maximum of 5 entries per class (i.e. A1, A2, B1, B2 etc).

5. Each Betta splendens entry must be at least 3.5cm in body length, measured from the tip of the mouth to the end of the caudal peduncle (i.e. not including the caudal fin). Entries below the minimum size shall be disqualified. Wild Betta entries shall be adult specimens.

6. Due to the limited number of tanks and in the case of overwhelming entries, the organizers reserve the right to limit a participant to a maximum of 1 entry per class. This is to encourage maximum participation from all hobbyists and breeders. If the entries are still more than the number of tanks available, then entries shall be selected on a first-come-first-served basis. Unsuccessful applicants shall be informed at least 3 days prior to the competition date and fees will be refunded.

7. The organizers reserve the right to re-classify entries in the event of wrong entry for any class/division. However, after benching in, fish found in the wrong class/division may be disqualified at the discretion of the judges and organizers.

8. Division F: Wild Betta entries shall have the scientific species name clearly stated in the "Label/Remarks" field of the entry form. Failure to state the scientific name or stating the wrong scientific name may result in disqualification at the discretion of the judges and organizers.

9. Each entry will be provided with a competition tank filled with water that has been aged for at least 24 hours. Each Division F: Wild Betta entry will be provided with a competition tank sized for the species entered. Participants are allowed to bring their own water to fill the competition tank(s) assigned.

10. Only Division F tanks will be allowed a minimal amount of plants to create an environment that will allow the bettas to feel secure and maximize the potential for them to color up. Plants shall be limited to:

(a) 1 or 2 clumps of Java Fern (microsorum pteropus), or Anubias sp. weighted down with a small rock, clay or ceramic ring. The total coverage area should not be beyond 1/3 of the length of the tank.

(b) Duckweed, azolla or similar short-rooted floating plants. The total coverage area should not exceed 1/2 the surface area of the tank.

11. Colored medications and water conditioners are not allowed. If medications or water conditioners are used, they must be colorless . Division F classes shall be allowed a minimum amount of colored water conditioners to just tint the water. The judges and organizers reserve the right to dilute the colored waterof any tank if it is deemed to be too dark.

12. The organizers will exercise reasonable efforts to look after all entries throughout the duration of the competition. However, the organizers shall not be held responsible for any injury, loss, illness or mortality of entries.

13. Fishes shall not be fed during the competition period except at times specified by the organizers.

14. Once the entries are accepted and displayed at the competition site, participants will not be allowed to remove any entries from the tanks, unless prior approval has been obtained from the organizers.

15. The closing date for all entries shall be Friday, 26th February 2010.

16. All entries shall be benched-in at the competition venue on Thursday, 4th March 2010 from 5 pm to 7 pm.

17. Judging shall take place on Friday,1 from 9am-2 pm, or whenever the judges have finished with the judging.

19. In the event of disputes, the organizers shall be the sole authority for the interpretation of the Rules & Regulations. No arguments shall be entertained.

20. Results are not final and official until posted by the organizers. After the results posted, any mistakes found should be made known to the organizers immediately.

21. Participants shall collect their fish from the competition venue on Sunday, 7th March 2010 from 5 pm to 7 pm. The organizers reserve the right to dispose of unclaimed fish in any fashion it sees fit.

22. Trophies will be awarded to the first and second prize-winners for each class, Division A, B, C and D Champions, and the Grand Champion. Certificates will be awarded to the top 3 winners in each class. The Grand Champion Betta shall be selected only from the Champions of Divisions A, B, C and D.

23. The organizers reserve the right to disqualify entries if any of the following is observed: deformed or unhealthy looking fish.

24. Judging criteria shall be the official Standards of the International Betta Congress (IBC), and judging shall be by IBC Certified Judges.

25. Judging shall be based on the condition and performance of the fish at the time of judging.

26. Sales of competition fish will be handled by the organizers. Please indicate on your entry form if you would like to sell your fish, and the sale price. Please note that a sales commission of 25% will be deducted by the organizers.

27. No stickers, labels or other forms of identification (other than those applied by the organizers) will be allowed on the competition tanks or racks.

28. Entries submitted via electronic means do not require a signature. However, such entries constitute a binding contract and the submitter is obligated to pay the appropriate entry fees within days 5 of submitting the entry form. Failure to pay by the stipulated time limit will result in disqualification of the entire entry submission. No changes in the entry form are allowed once submitted and received by the organizers.

Just check Edwin, Giant (min body lenght 2.25 inch) for entry.
Class for Giant: Solid and AOC

Reason for new classes :

1) To check the response n hope giant will be in permanent class in IBC comp in near future.

2) Encourage breeder to breed more quality solid colour.
