Default Marine pure media for OHF

I went to get some marine pure spheres for my OHF and was informed marine pure now has media made specifically for OHF trays. Got myself some to test, curious whether anyone else has tried since i was told it was just released in the market?

nyways just to share some pics/vids on it as i believe i'm not the only one who has had trouble squeezing mp spheres into ohf trays while trying not to leave too many gaps... or sawing mp blocks to fit the trays.

Vid 1 showing how the MP OHF media looks like and the fit for OHF tray :

Vid 2 showing it in my OHF.... there's 4 yellow plastic things that came in the box... i guess it's to elevate the media for better gaseous exchange and to see the trickle effect (pls correct me if i'm wrong and it's actually intended for another use?)... but i'm not sure how inert the entire block would be in the long run considering the pressure is centered on that 4 points... so i only used the plastic things on 2 trays to test. better safe than sorry.

This is how the box looks like :

Comparing how MP spheres fit into 1 tray... 1 box of mp spheres costs more, but has around 20 spheres left over after filling up 1 tray... but there's also a lot of wasted gaps and uneven flow through them in comparison :

Pretty good water dispersion across the media :

Cant really guage how effective it is yet on water quality but i doubt that'll be an issue as it's basically the same marine pure media, just that it's ready made for OHF trays

Thumbs up

Thats freaking awesome! Upgraded all my overhead filters to MP, clogged up the compartment to emulate an overhead sump, top layer (cause there's still water allowance) I topped up with biohome. IMHO, they cycle faster than regular media too.

I got the spheres though

it's your standard marine pure media, just sized for OHF trays. i think MP has been around long enough that it doesnt need anymore testimonials for how good it is

i was informed i had placed the media upside down ... apparantly the surface with the circular depressions is meant to be at the bottom and not facing the top as it was designed that way for optimal flow rate through the media. thanks for the correction

Additionally i would strongly recommend not using the 4 plastic risers as there's the nagging thought that it'll cause the block to break in the long run due to the weight/pressure not being evenly distributed. i doubt it'll happen within 1 or 2 years, but who knows what can happen in 3 or 5 or 7 years ?
