Default What is Goldfish Grooming?

As the title above? I want to understand and seek everyone opinion. The standard and/or goal of grooming. What is the characteristic or profile of the fish that we want to achieve and the methods. Thanks in advance.

Bro FND...you can start by looking in here...The Standard of Perfection by Mr Geert Coppens....

http://www.extreamranchu.com/mc/scoo..._id=56&ag_id=1

Ranchu grooming and appreciation goes hand in hand and are heavily interwined. Go back to your earlier thread...there are learning in there...

http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=409428

Grooming is what you understand of the "IDEAL" and how you try to make your fish grow as close to the "IDEAL" as possible. What is "THe IDEAL"...all I can say is you got to figure out yourself through reading up, see as many ranchus as possible and ask many questions from hobbyists...just a word of caution...most of us are just half basket of knowledge and still trying to figure out ourselves....we are very far away from the Thais as they are continously exposed to Japanese Masters and have many competitions to attend and participate. Good luck and welcome to the long journey of ranchu keeping and like some hobbyists ever mentioned...the more you know (about ranchus) you will realise that the more you don't know, but that is the fun and thrill of discovering and learning ranchu upkeeping/grooming.

Hi Bro kitsilano,

Exactly my sentiment and hence this thread. I've read the thai link before. I still do not understand the term "Grooming your GF" which being repeatedly mentioned? What are we grooming and method of grooming?

Bro FND, are you able to tell what is a really good TVR now? Good for you to see pictures of winning fishes especially in Japanese comp. If you can see the videos will be better. I think besides learning from the masters, this is the best option that we have. You will grasp sometime what is a good fish. Generally the rule of the thumb is that a fish has to be balance and harmonious. Once a fish is well balance and healthy it will be able to swim well.

There are too many things about grooming that it is very difficult to pen it down. To me when i choose a young fish, i already have in mind what i envisioned it to be. I will work from there. Creative and resourcefulness is important for the journey. You must be patient and willing to accept failure and alot of disappointment. If you are passionate, you will achieve success.

Cheers
