He likely to have free health care for life.

His genes and did u read he take only two spoonful of rice for dinner. Likely he has blood sugar problem but he knows how to keep it under control.

- All these shield plans is it the same as Medical Insurance? Or what Millenium said Hospital Shield Plan?

- If one already has Medishield plan, can just get from other insurer to cover the deductible and coinsurance or must get a basic shield plan from them first?

- Does Medical insurance cover pre-surgery and post surgery consultation? Also does it cover seeing specialists fees and medication in hospitals? Those shield plans do or do not cover the same?

Still blur..

BTW is Careshield and Careshield Life means the same?

U can purchase a separate plan to cover the deductible and coinsurance if u wish.

Default Story from Silvia Lim

This story by Sylvia Lim is why I am highly skeptical of all the claims and promises being dished out by the government about Careshield and the benefits for the elderly.

Pls remember that you will only get the benefits (the $300 under Eldershield, and $600 under Careshield in the future) if you are SEVERELY disabled, ie you are unable to do AT LEAST 3 out of 6 tasks of Assisted Daily Living, or ADLs.

Let me repeat and emphasise: you MUST be SEVERELY disabled, and not just disabled, to qualify for Eldershield/Careshield payouts.

Sylvia related in Parliament today the case of Mr K:

"This resident, Mr K, was suffering from an advanced stage of kidney failure and already had his leg amputated earlier due to diabetes. The insurer later decided to discontinue Mr K’s Eldershield benefits as the insurer’s panel doctor had assessed that he could perform all of the six activities of daily living “although partially”.

"When I appealed on his behalf for a re-assessment, the insurer wrote back to him to fill up another claim form. Meanwhile he was admitted to a hospice. When I saw him there, he requested me to write to the insurer to say that he would not be filling up the form as he was in the hospice.

"Eventually, his daughter filled up the form, and I understand that the hospice doctors assisted to get his Eldershield benefits restored. But within a month, he was dead."

So, literally, even if you have your limbs chopped off and are languishing in a care facility, you may still NOT qualify for benefits under Eldershield (or Careshield, in the future).

You literally have to be absolutely handicapped, probably totally immobile, and also on the brink of death first - and even then, no one knows for sure if you will qualify.

With $3.3 billion being collected through the premiums, it is criminal that someone like Mr K had to beg for a bit more help - and be rejected.

We need to ask very serious questions about the money that is being collected and will be collected from Eldershield and Careshield.

If such a scheme had come from anywhere else, it would be called a scam. What else could it be if you collected BILLIONS and you reject help for someone who has had advanced kidney failure, diabetes and an amputation and had to be admitted to a hospice?

Only heartless people holding on to billions would reject help for such a person.

Sylvia Lim again:

"I would like to emphasize the point that CareShield Life will be a compulsory scheme, and young Singaporeans will have to pay 37 years of premiums. With this looming fact in mind, CareShield must have meaningful coverage, and my view is that the “3-ADLs test” needs to be reviewed and readjusted to serve this end."
