Outdoor koi fgt
Hi Bros
just curious if I have a outdoor fgt with koi, is there any precaution I have to take from rain water as it may contain toxic that can harm the koi? During water change, do I need to add any treatment or just purely from the tap is ok? thank |

Depends how big is your fgt. Too much rain water will alter the PH as our rain is quite acidic.
For water change, not more than 20% each time and must be treated with anti chlorine. |

Tap water has chlorine and chloramine which are harmful to kois. Best to add some anti chlorine and chloramine.

Hi Guys
thank for the advise to use anti chlorine and chloramine I may go for a 1.5x1x0.6m fgt. It is difficult to predict when is going to rain. How can I prevent the acidic rain and preserve the right PH? What is the right PH for koi? |

Hi, are you planning to keep small size koi? The 1.5ft FGT may be too small and the other thing you have to look out for is that koi will jump out due to poor water condition.

If thats the biggest FGT you can get, the kois shouldn't be more than 6" or so. To prevent rain, can you keep it indoors, under the roof etc.
Also as advised, young kois will jump..so a netting is advisable. |

Hey bro, welcome to koi keeping
Its ok to have a small FGT to keep smaller kois.. or what the say "bonsai kois" Some bonsai kois can be beautiful too! http://www.no1koi.com/events/view/108 PH wise.. about 7-8 should be ideal.. u can use oyster shell to balance the PH. Just leave them in the last filter chamber will do. Important is.. Enjoy the keeping process |
