PM Lee set on retaking Aljunied, will not abandon GRC

The PAP is not interested to take back Aljunied. The big problem they are facing now is the danger of losing more GRC and wards as they are definitely much weaker. So weak they have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to have new candidates (TPL) comes to mind. The old stalwarts like WKS, MBT, LKY, GCT and others will not be around in 2016.

There are many capable and qualified people who can join PAP but they are not keen. I think the opposition has the upperhand in getting more qualifiesd members than the PAP.

So why is he putting LBH in charge of Aljunied. It is a red herring to get WP to focus on Aljunied and not on the weaker GRC's and wards like Marine Parade and Potong Pasir. I can bet that once Aljunied is fully settled and come 2016, LTK will move out and contest in another GRC.

Last time Lao Goh was tasked to take back Potong Pasir and Hougang....although he didn't finish the job...but still become ESM leh...

I doubt LTK will do that. He is not likely the kind who goes into one battle ground, secure it and move onto another immediately. This will be bad for his reputation, it's like tackle a gal, get her liao immediately at e next opportunity, move onto another gal.

I think, LTK will want to solidify his ground, build on it, strengthen both Aljunied and Hougang that it becomes hard for anyone to penetrate it. At the same time, maybe create a new strong group for another GRC. He doesn't scatter his key persons, else he wouldn't have group SL and CSM together w him. Good strategy, strongest team against a weaker link.

I do think Singaporeans as one are politically more savvy than ever before. In part due to the younger generation and the role the internet played during the last elections and the PE, we understand and will not think that way about LTK. I may be wrong, but like I said earlier, the groupthink should not be discounted as it is a powerful effect of the internet. The PAP also realises this and now they have made efforts to counter it.

Some comments I have heard was that even the new citizens were voting the opposition as they came from countries that do not have single party government. They said that these new citizens are not comfortable with such an arrangement and prefer a 2 party system.
