i've never been stung.
rays will only sting when no other option is present and this situation will only occur out of idiocy from the owner. on hatcheries, where rays are being handled more frequent, the danger is obviously bigger. |

I have never been stung by a pdr, however been stung by both motoro and sp before.
Is there any diff in the toxin level. I trust Gerome has high pain threshold, given his been medic. However, based on my own experience, the pain usually subside within 4-5 hours and i dont require morphine. I been stung a total of three times and dont consider myself a high pain threshold person. Seem like black ray more venominous. How about p12 and p14, any difference? anyone who has been struck by diff types of rays, please provide your input. |

Wah.. different ray got different amount and type of venom?
...or is it different people react differently. Quote:
I keep going through nets cos I move them with nets. If entangled with stinger I just cut the net with a long scissors. I won't consider going anywhere within striking distance of a stressed ray. To me, respecting a ray simply means respecting it's stinger. The only time I pet my rays is when they come to me, never when I go to them. Last edited by lincolngoh; 23-10-2009 at 04:54 PM. |

Will wearing the dish-washing gloves help? Any rubber gloves (long gargener gloves?) for that matter?
Assuming they WILL sting, what is the best way of protection for the handler? |

- When packaging, best to use pail or styrofoam box. - Just don't go near the tail. - Never use hands to chase ray in tank. - Never take eyes off rays when hand in water or when packaging. |

Panther, rubber gloves will not help at all. The stinger went through a friend's jean when he was transporting it from Pt A to B.
Use magnetic glass tank cleaners or those with long handle ones for algae cleaning. Ask Marshy abt it! Linusfishing 4 pts pretty good advice also. End of the day......"Common sense is the key across the board". |
