So far how do you find it? How dirty doesn't it gets? It's a pure shrimp tanks?

On a side note. I'm brainstorming to add a prefilter to grow anaerobic bacteria. Just like the setup u have but with some tweak in media.

It's a pure shrimp tank. So far, I have not done any maintenance to the filter yet since I do not detect any problems to the shrimps and also the flowrate seems to be quite alright.

IMO, your idea can only be applied for a separate filter where the anaerobic bacteria is grown in anoxic conditions with very slow flowrate such as those in the denitirfication chamber. This will prove to be more effective as the aim of cultivating anaerobic bacteria is to remove the nitrates in the water which will only be present after the ammonia has been converted to nitrites and eventually nitrates.

Hi washywashy, just to share with u my idea. I got inspired from a old tread using 2 canister filter in series and tweaking the internal flow of the second canister to create a "semi-stayng ban reservoir"
