Is this Gill flukes?
Hi guys..
Just yesterday night realized my TVR spitting out food I gave.. And I'm afraid it's gill flukes but not sure.. Here's a video:
The gills are opening and closing.. Is this normal? How should a healthy TVR be? Totally closed or? Thanks in advance! |

how many are you keeping in a what size tub?
Been keeping together for how long or if there's recent addition to the community? Do you observe this happening also even in the beginning part of the day before any feedings? A salt dip would probably resolve it. Not sure if you are keen to explore this method or want to wait for other suggestions. |

Anyway I actually didn't notice until I realized they spit out their food yesterday night.. Then I went to do a research on the net and saw someone posting a video of his sick ranchu.. And to me his fish looked okay bcos it was behaving same like mine and the guy comment say that his fish is having gill flukes then I realised my fishes might also have the flukes.. So early this morning I did a 100% WC with 0.6% salt.. I also stop feeding them.. I realised that instead of rapidly opening their gills.. Now one side closed one side moving.. And they not as active also.. |

I had a similar situation after i notice the above on one of my ranchu. What i did was put some salt and Prazi Gold for 5 days. No feeding for 3 days and feed lightly after that. It manage to recover. I think 6 pcs in your tub size is over crowded unless you are very good at managing the water. All the best to your treatment. |

bad water parameters caused by overfeeding and probably overcrowding.
what I did to my nisais and cbrs, when I noticed that their gills did not closed fully and was opening/closing quicker than usual (sometimes i lazy to wc even water was no good already and wanted to push my luck for one more day), was to do 100% wc, salt dip and then quarantine with added salt for 3days (my wc cycle is every 3days) and observe. Usually after the salt dip, the gills will close back and back to normal. For those which I noticed that after salt dip and back into tub, they have symptoms of "shaking" their gills or heading towards airstone to brush against, then I will monitor more closely. |

I went was 2mins 20secs thereabout.. Got to watch them very carefully during the dip..first timers not used to it will be like "fainting" and after going back to the tub will be stoned for a while for some. Dont do it after feeding session. And mine was about 4-5months of age when i tried. Too young better not. Above is what i am comfortable with. Different pple may have different ways of treating their gf's sickness. Last edited by wei; 01-06-2013 at 01:34 PM. |
