20 liters Tank (US Fissiden/CRS)

saw this chiller at seaview yesterday but did not notice the price.
they have one plugged in to a small tank at the shrimp sale area.
since it's TEM technology, how's the efficiency compared to other TEM chillers like iceprobe, dolphin etc?

Well, from what I understand, Johnlen Thermoelectric Chiller CS049 is indeed a TEM chiller. But it in-built with a temperature control which you can control from 22 ~ 30 degreeC.

Dolphin brand doesn't have a controller option and Iceprobe does have a controller option, with extra cost.

So far, I have yet to use it as I am still waiting for my driftwood to be ready (most likely tonight I will kick start my project). Once the chiller has been tested by me, I will share my views on it.

Ben from Petmart recommended Johnlen Thermoelectric Chiller over Haliea HC100A as he said the power comsumption is lesser, and more quiet.

For the display set at Seaview, the tank's temperature is still staying at 30 degreeC even with this chiller. I mentioned it to Ben and he believed that no maintenance was done. He said that he clean the fan area of his chiller once a month. And true enough, Petmart's tank that is using this chiller to bring down the temperature is at 27.5 degreeC, though the chiller is set at 25.5 degreeC.

i think with all TEM chillers, it's false savings due to the need to run 24/7.
but if it does the job you require it to do, then good enough.
as for me i bit the bullet and "upgraded" to a conventional chiller

At last, my driftwood is ready for aquarium use and I decided to start the tank running. Below are the steps I did last night.

1) Tied US Fissiden on driftwood
2) Try to tie US Fissiden on rock but failed
3) Let water run through the Johnlen Thermoelectric Chiller for a while
4) Final connection of all hoses / pipes
5) Pour in 1/3 of a bottle of Mosura Old Sea Mud Powder



6) Laying 1st layer of soil (bigger in size, almost 2kg) with the driftwood in place
7) Laying ADA Aqua Soil Amazonia II (2kg+ in total) for the 2nd layer



8) Placing the rock in place and continue laying more soil. At the same time, creating a slope effect
(Without Water)


9) Slowly filling up the the tank with water, with the help of a sponge
10) Placing a Normal Gex Therometer in the tank
(With Water)


That's all I did, for around 5 hours. hahaha....Taking my own sweet time. =)

To follow on, below are some of the snap shots I took on the US Fissiden tied on the driftwood, the chiller and also the tank shot after I add in Amazon Frogbits.

- Temperature set at 23.5 degree C as the booklet wrote (+-2 C). I shall adjust accordingly in near future

The water level may be a bit too high. You may want to lower down the water outlet.

This morning when I woke up, I expect to see condensation on the tank glass. True enough, the whole tank look chilling cold with the condensation effect. Look at the pictures below to feel the coldness.





I had also took a shot on the therometer to show you guys the temperature of my tank this morning. I will try to montior the temperature during the afternoon over the weekend to see how well the chiller can work. That will be all for my setup for now.

Thanks. After around 1.5 weeks later, I will change around 60 ~ 70% of the water. I will update again.

I did notice that. But since the water didn't splash out, I will leave it as it is. Water will still evaporate, hence the water level will be lower after sometime.
