Default Suggestion on canister filter inlet.

Hi all,
Is it good to have a sponge filter at the canister inlet to just take in dissolved substance into the canister, or to use a strainer at the canister inlet to take in loose waste substance.

I do know both works. Beside the frequent maintenance different. Which will have a better to polish the water or to maximize the canister filter effectiveness.

Thanks in advance

I run two filters. A OHF and a canister. I hate servicing the canister so i put it as a skimmer.

If i let the OHF take in the bulk of waste, I will have to clean the rainbar ever so often which is a pain in the ....

So I play around with the outlet position so that I would have waste accumulating at one side of the tank which i would siphon daily
