1. Isolate the fish with SBP, reduce feeding to once every two days. Don't worry, the fish will be fine with less food. 2. If there's no improvement, try Epsom salt at 0.2% salinity, i.e. 2g per liter predissolved before adding. After each WC, replenish salinity to 2g per liter. Maintain this for 3-5 days. If the above does not help, it's very likely the SB of the fish is already weak or compromised. |

while treating it, try to lower the water level so that it won't struggle to "dive" for food.

Try soaking the pellets before feeding. I'm finding this very helpful.
Best of luck! |

I don't believe in floating pellet or sinking pellet being good or bad for goldfishes...the health of the fish including the swim bladder most important...healthy fish with healthy swim bladder can take floating pellet and no issue. It is when the swim bladder is damaged and eating floating pellets and gas building up in the body cavity and a damaged swim bladder cannot function efficient enough to discharge the air that cause sbp. Sometimes goldfishes might have temporary sbp(gas build up) bcos of overfeeding or bad water quality...adjusting the feeding and water change can help reduce floating..if swim bladder is still good...overfeeding causes more gas buildup and the fish swim bladdder cannot discharge the gas fast enough...stop feeding for half a day will help the gas build up to be released through good swim bladder. On the other hand if swim bladder that is already damaged, overfeeding which causes more gas buildup, the damaged swim bladder cannot discharge the gas build up and the fish will suffer and float and float endlessly. ps...dont see the rational of adding salt every water change. Add baking soda is more correct and that help keep stabilise the PH as goldfishes do better in higher PH. Last edited by kitsilano; 14-09-2015 at 11:38 AM. |

The higher the first two, you have to keep up with water change. If you have to do WC so frequent where you start to feel like a slave to your fish, then the joy and fun of keeping fish will start to diminish. |

Feeding already reduce to night time. WC ask my maid to change 2 big pails of water every alternate day, during my oversea trip.. Hope the fishes cannot recover and grow slowly. Thinking of clearing all, then buy2 pcs of solid one and start re-keeping again. |
