Yes, some of them can survive for weeks and some are gone in a day or two.
If it don't eat, i think OK as well as it helps to clear up some debris :-)

Hi there,
I so happy to see this.......
have been searching for these (crayfish) for quite some time.
Had thoughts of restarting my tank.

Kept some a few years back...but found the upper part of the tank too bare so decided to put fishes in ... Big Mistake.!!!

Over time , the fishes gets bigger & bigger & the crayfishes starting to disappear... even though i was very careful & always on the lookout of them molting to separate them.

The thing is, they almost always molt in the night.. so by the time I find them in the morning , they are already fish food.

please please please... can you help me get some or let me know where you go..?

Thanks
Regards.

Crayfish molting process is slower than shrimps, thus as they are 'removing' their old shells, they are vulnerable to attacks by other tank mates, including fishes.

You need to provide ample hiding space for them to molt, where they may not get attack.

yeah... I'd normally put them on it's own in another smaller tank.... whenever i notice a separation gap between the head & body..sign of molting... but sometime they hide themselves too well until it is too late .

I'd really love to have 2-4 to start again.

Hi there crabster... I'm a newbie but currently I am rearing four crayfishes... 3 zebras & 1 hoa creek... wat type of crayfishes u looking 4? Basically there's two type of crays that r available in Singapore. Procambarus & cherax... If its Procambarus u looking for, theres alot of lfs selling them eg. Y618. For cherax, other than zebras, it's quite hard to get them..

I think the crayfish caught at the park ponds should be quarantined first before being fed to your aro or shouldnt be fed at all. They might contain a lot of parasites and bacteria. Like the crayfish in the first post, the furry stuff on the claws seem to be some sort of fungus growing.
