Default Placement of chillers

Hi all.
New to chillers. Just like to know a couple of things. After getting a chiller, where would be a reccomended place to place it? Can i place it in my tank cabinet? or is it advisable?
And lastly, the 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 hp thing ah.. what is it all about?
I know hp = hosepower. but what does the number like 1/2 indicate? thanks.!

You must place the chiller in a well ventilated area ... if you put it inside yr cabinet .. the chiller will run for the whole day and nothing will get chilled.

There is alot of rating standards around. Some of them rate by compressor power, some by cooling power, some anyhow rate. An artica 1/2HP will outperform some of the 1.5HP chillers around so yr best bet is to ask before you buy. The HP rating is not a good indication of performance if you are new to chillers.

So the chiller is best to be placed at well ventilated areas? okay.
So to channel the flow of water into the chiller, i can just connect it to the canister filter rite? I dont have to get any external pumps?

Cos was reccomended the Arctica chiller using the chiller calculater by JBJ. They say 1/4hp chiller will do(Model DBE-200)
But went to the LFS, most reccomend a the 1/3hp chiller.
(Model DBM-250)
So was wondering whats the diff between these numbers.
My tank is a 6x2x2.

So looking for any reccomendations of good chillers.

My suggestion is that you get another pump .. yr canister might not be able to push enough water into the chiller and up yr tank.

Its very confusing how some manufacturers rate their chillers but I can tell you 2 of the methods.

Rating by compressor HP
1 cooling ton = 1 HP = 12000BTU = (british thermal unit)
1/2HP = 6000BTU

Rating by total cooling HP
Compressors will have a lower HP compared to cooling power. A chiller rated with cooling power will have a much lower compressor HP. E.g Chiller cooling power rated at 1/2HP but actual compressor is only 1/3HP.

So if you compare a chiller rate with a cooling power of 1/2HP with another chiller with a compressor rating of 1/2HP .. its going to be different.

For a 6x2x2 tank, say if i just wanna the water to be cool ard 26-27 degrees ah, any models of chiller is reccomended?
The chiller will be a long term investment for me. Cos if i plan to go into marine, least i have got some of the basic equipments.
thanks.

Upgrade? Think no. Equipment will be like this all the way.
Oh changing my FLs to 220watts of PLs as in 4 X 55watts.
The rest will be the same.
