Apistogramma ramizeri breeding

Just wish to share with everyone here some photos of my A. ramizeri pair that spawn last night.

This is my first time breeding them.

Set them up in a 45cm x 26cm x 22cm tank. With a mid sized hanging filter. Substrate is Sudo cory sand from the previous cory breeding set up. Furnishing includes some flat granite pieces, one pleco cone and a large pleco cave turned on its side. Also large clumps of plastic plants (decided to try plastic instead of real once since its pretty hard to plant in such fine sand)

Got this pair about 2 months ago and started feedinf twice daily.

At first they both developed strong colours and started courting within the day but activity slowed down after after month. I figured maybe she is not interested to breed so went to get another two more female to increase mate choices.

Interestingly, with the introduction of the two new female, the male started to court the first female once more and this time with intensity. And finally last night, the spawning began! The other two females were then moved to a communal tank once the spawning had completed and the pair are guarding the clutch diligently.

Day 2, eggs had hatched into wrigglers. They are so tiny!

just to check. these are german rams or apistos? or german rams considered apistos?

They're not from the Apistogramma family. Although they're dward cichlids.
For now, their scientific name is Mikrogeophagus ramirezi.

They're used to be called apistogramma ramirezi until 50++ years ago I think.
From then, widely accepted as mikrogeohagus ramirezi.
Congrats on the spawn.
