The following are the tank setup,

Tank 422
Old External Cannister (3 layer)
1st layer normal filter wool
2nd layer cr + jap mat (just add jap mat last monday, did wash cr with tank water)
3rd layer porous type cr + jap mat (replaced bioball [came with cannister] last monday)
additional filter wool below the 3rd layer
and externel prefilter (added last monday)

WC every 2-3 days with 10% aged water with API stress coat+ & TetraAqua ArowanaVital and bubble.

Water parameters as follow,
PH 4.6 constanly measure over last 3 days with pet fran PH pen (tap water PH 7.4)
Ammonia 8ppm with API NH3 / NH4 test kit
Nitrites 0 with JBL 5 in 1 teststrips
Nitrates 10 -25 with JBL 5 in 1 teststrips
GH 4-7 with JBL 5 in 1 teststrips
KH 1 with API KH test kit

Very suprise SR survive with such high ammonia, might be because of super low PH. And think the nitrification process did not take place at all!

Need advise how to get back to correct track and at the sametime not to harm the SR.

Was thinking to slowly bring up th PH with ARM n Hammer pure baking soda till PH 6, then add Nite-Out II. (Do i need to add seachem prime to detox ammonia ) Cut down feeding and perhaps cut down WC as well.

Pls help and advise. TIA

Sorry for my ignorance...
you can try using baking soda to bring up yr kh - best to do this slowly less you shock the fish

Our tap water is almost zero in KH. WC will temp raise the pH and will drop very fast. So, resulting in pH up and down.

With high NH, you will not be able to raise the pH and keep it there by WC of 20 to 30%.

The only solution is to add sodium bicarbonate.

I will not suggest the use of CC during the duration of building up nitrification. Except tank that is setup for high bioload. Those brothers that I have help to lower their tank pH know the problem.
OK, got it! Thks alot... cheers

After added in half teaspoon of BS yesterday, the PH just measured as 6.5!
(measure 3 times to confirm with half and hour interval)
Wondering why PH can increase so much with just half teaspoon of BS! Anybody?

Parameters as follow,

Ammonia remains 8ppm with API NH3 / NH4 test kit
Nitrites 0 with JBL 5 in 1 teststrips
Nitrates 25 with JBL 5 in 1 teststrips
GH 4-7 with JBL 5 in 1 teststrips
KH increase to 2 with API KH test kit

Think its time to add BB liao...
