Awww, so scary. Wonder what causes his thumb to swell. But wear gloves very hard to arrange things sometimes, like very clumzy, hehe.

The most important thing is to ensure open wounds are covered when you work in your tank. Usually, from the cases i've read about, the infection seem to have entered via the open wound when the aquarist works in the tank.
I guess some safety measures we can have is to be wary of any injuries before working in the aquarium, treat any injury we sustain while at work in the aquarium right away and to see a doctor as soon as possible if we have any unusual symptoms(like in his case red streaks and swelling).

A fishtank is just like your computer. When your tank crash(OS crash), its time to cleanup(reformat hard drive) and setup(install OS) again and add new livestock(re-install software). |

feel like vomiting when i saw the pictures
But it is true that we are not sure of what organisms or harmful bacteria that can be possibly present in the water. I guess the best prevention is to wear gloves when moving anything. I know a friend who is keeping reef tank for almost half a year but dont even dare to touch any LRs and livestocks, he either use tongs or net...LOL...I always tease him about that...hehehehe Be safe then be sorry. |

I always wear cheap disposable plastic gloves whenever placing my hands in the tank. Not only to prevent getting wounds like that but also to prevent my fish getting infected from my own hands
