If it's specifically F8 puffers, I believe there is an adequate chance of keeping them in pure freshwater. The debate is on as to what the actual water salinity is for F8 puffers in particular.

Errrr....this is a bit off topic but since you mentioned "pure freshwater".....what is this water salinity you are talking about ?

FW is FW (fresh water)....SW is SW (sea water)....in the middle is what is called brackish.
Also for salt...FW aquarium salts is not sea-salt.
Therefore, in Aquarium jargon or terms, FW has no "salinity" involved unless it is brackish or SW.

Its not healthy to have brackish fish in FW.
Thats why they "suddenly" die or only puffer in comm tank dies but other fisk ok.

These puffers are supposed to be active but most people say they are inactive....

If you read the puffer threads, there are a lot of people who relish keeping puffers due to their fierce eating habits...so its not usual for these fierce fish to be inactive...

I think this needs another rephrase. It is not decided whether F8 puffers are actually freshwater or brackish puffers.
