A beautiful tri colour carp which compose of red, black on a white base fish.

This fish was first bred in the taisho era and so named as Taisho Sanke.

as u may notice, a sanke differs from a showa being the fact that they are no black patches on its head.

Also the black patches on its body are in small patches and not blocks in the case of showa.

In addition, the black stripes in the pectoral fins are stripy with no big block base as in showa.

A sumo looking showa shanshoku. Together with the kohaku and sanke, these big 3 are known as the Gosanke.

The grand champion category are usually challenged among these 3 fishes due to the difficulty in maintaining the blood red and at the same time keeping the white snow white and keeping the black as black as indian ink.
Quite a accomplishment if u suceed in achieveing this.

my favourite koi, the bicolour carp in black and white, the only type of variety that can challenge the big 3, Shiro Utsuri.

The most famous breeder for producing this shiro variety is Omosako san.
