Chiller, Yes or No??
Hi bros, is it necessary to have a chiller for aquatic plants tank? I'm setting up 4ft tank and thinking whether to put in chiller or not. And also which type of chiller is good. Any inputs much appreciated. Thanks.

If you don't mind the increase in electricity bill, it is always good to have a chiller esp you want to grow nice moss and those challenging plants.

Really depends on the kind of plants you want. Of course, if you have the funds and can tolerate the increase in electrical consumption you should go for it.
Depending on your ambient temperature, you can consider installing powerful fans to cool your tank down. (Ie. The proposed tank location is in an air conditioned area) this will be the cheaper method. But water evaporation is pretty high, resulting in frequent water top ups. Which can stress sensitive fauna. End of the day, it will always be good to have if budget permits |

Cool bro. Any brand of chiller to recommend? My budget about $500-$600 for a 4ftx1.5ftx2ft. Or even any to recommend those powerful fans? Thanks!

recommended to get a chiller slightly overpower for your tank size as it will chill the water faster and don't have to kick in all the time.
I have this at home.

if u put the electricity bill aside, chiller is a good investment...
u can have lot of nice exotic plants. with CO2 and low temp in yr tank, it helps in reducing algae too |

I bought it many yrs ago and I don't think the price is relevant now.
Slightly above $1K back then. Model is DBE-200 http://www.jbjchillers.com/contents/en-us/d81.html |
