Tetra with Broken Jaw
Hello!
I have an emperor tetra that has a broken jaw. I originally thought it was dislocated or locked open, however when i netted him, i was able to nudge close the jaw so determined that the lower jaw was definitely broken. (he was surprisingly docile and didn't struggle when he was lain on his side!) The fish still eats, however he cannot close his mouth himself and I can see slight red of his gills, as his gill covers seem a slightly ajar (like when a fish yawns it shifts the gills forward). Does anyone know if the jaw can heal itself? Are there any steps I can take to help the fish? Thanks for your help! |

I have one furcata that had the same problem. Still eats as well as the other. In the end it became one of the longest living furcata Rainbow fish of that batch. The jaw never heals.
